Open Day Centre for the Homeless in the Municipality of Corfu

The Open Day Centre in the Municipality of Corfu provides food, primary health care and personal hygiene services, professional orientation and psychosocial empowerment to more than 200 visitors per month.

Through the services provided, the aim is to address poverty, social exclusion, as well as to raise awareness and inform the local community.

Provided Services

From the beginning of the Center’s operation, our priority has been the holistic support of the visitors.

Thus, we provide:

  • Breakfast and lunch,
  • Psychosocial Care & Empowerment,
  • Medical services,
  • Nursing Services,
  • Work Consulting,
  • CV Writing,
  • Find a Job - Connect with local businesses,
  • Special area with washing machines/dryers,
  • Shower for guest's daily hygiene,
  • Specially designed area for lunch break,
  • Scholarships - Educational Support for Children/Adolescents,
  • Information days, and
  • Social Orientation Actions.

Beneficiaries

Beneficiaries of the Facility are the homeless.  Homeless people include particularly those living on the streets, in hostels, those who are temporarily accommodated out of necessity in institutions or other closed structures, and those living in unsuitable accommodation.

Beneficiaries also include people who are in a situation of or threatened by poverty.

Basic registration documents

In order to join the Open Day Center in the Municipality of Corfu, the visitor is asked to present the following supporting documents:

  1. Photocopy of ID or passport
  2. Photocopy of bill or proof of permanent residence or lease or proof of homelessness
  3. Certificate of marital status
  4. Recent bank statement and
  5. Social Security Registration Number (AMKA) certificate.

The additional supporting documents are examined on a case-by-case basis.

Social reintegration actions

Aiming social reintegration, the scientific staff of the Facility primarily provides visitors with the services offered, as well as organizes activities aimed at raising awareness of the local community.

Since the first year of operation, employees and volunteers have been carrying out street work, cultural events, voluntary blood donations and preventive medicine activities. At the same time, the social worker of the Facility carries out individual sessions aimed at the psychological empowerment of the beneficiaries and the improvement of their living conditions.

The visitors of the Facility also have the possibility to receive from the employment counsellor services of job counselling and CV writing in order to find a job. Every year, within the framework of the "Study with Scholarship" programme of our Organisation, scholarships are offered to children of needy families to learn foreign languages.

Social Pharmacy in the Municipality of Lefkada 2024

The Social Pharmacy in the Municipality of Lefkada provides on a regular basis free of charge medicines, sanitary material and parapharmaceutical products to beneficiaries in need.

While providing high quality health and welfare services to the visitors of the facility, we aim to promote social inclusion and support the fight against poverty and any discrimination. In addition, psychosocial services are provided in the facility, aiming at the holistic support of the beneficiaries.

Moreover, the Social Pharmacy organizes activities involving the whole community, promoting both awareness and inclusion.

Provided Services

In order to support its visitors, the Social Pharmacy provides:

  • Pharmaceutical Consultancy
  • Pharmaceutical Care
  • Psychosocial Care & Empowerment,
  • CV Writing
  • Provision of basic necessities,

Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries of the program consist of individuals and households residing in the Municipality of Lefkada who, based on social and economic criteria and relevant evidence, are in a state or threatened by poverty
(e.g. beneficiaries of the social assistance scheme, persons with very low and/or zero annual income, legally resident citizens of third countries or stateless persons and applicants for international protection).

Basic registration documents

In order to join the Community Pharmacy in the Municipality of Lefkada, the visitor is asked to present the following supporting documents:

  1. Photocopy of ID or passport,
  2. Photocopy of bill or proof of permanent residence or lease or proof of homelessness,
  3. Certificate of marital status,
  4. Recent bank statement,

The Soup Kitchen in the Municipality of Lefkada, which is implemented by our Organization in cooperation with the Holy Metropolis of Lefkada and Ithaca offers quality and nutritious meals in a hospitable environment.

The basic goal of the Facility's operation is to address the food problem, but also to implement actions for the support and social integration of its visitors by providing psychosocial services.

Moreover, the Soup Kitchen organizes awareness – raising activities involving the whole community, promoting the inclusion of all the members of the community.

Provided Services

From the beginning of the operation of the structure our priority has been the holistic support of the visitors. Thus, we provide:

  • Lunch full meal,
  • Psychosocial Care & Empowerment,
  • Writing a CV,
  • Find a Job – Connect with local businesses,
  • Provision of basic necessities,
  • Scholarships - Educational Support for Children/Adolescents,
  • Creative Employment Workshop, and
  • Professional Reintegration.

Social reintegration actions

The initiatives planned by the Structure’s staff have as their central axis the awareness and information of visitors and the general public.

Since the first year of operation of the Structure, employees and volunteers have been carrying out informative street work actions, workshops and counseling seminars with the aim of informing the visitors of the Structure and the public of Lefkada about issues that concern them such as benefits, insurance and others.

At the same time, every year Scholarships are offered for teaching foreign languages to children from families in need.

Volunteering

Volunteering is an act of selfless giving that contributes to the overall well-being of society. It is an attitude that helps improve conditions in the social environment and the volunteer as an individual.

The "e-gnosis" program stands as a nationwide initiative that has been consistently enhancing education in new technologies and foreign languages since its inception in 2012. It provides individuals with the opportunity to acquire knowledge and validate it with recognized certifications, thereby empowering them to take their next professional step.

Since its launch, thousands of learners have enrolled in the "e-gnosis" program, enriching its value and underscoring the market's increasing demand for candidates proficient in new technologies and the English language.

Free English & Computer Lessons


In alignment with our core values, which prioritize aiding those in need and advancing equal opportunities in education, our organization actively supports members of vulnerable social groups, the unemployed, students, public and private employees, members of large families, and more, by offering:

  • Complimentary English language education aimed at achieving the globally recognized TOEIC certification, accredited by the Hellenic American Union in partnership with ETS (Educational Testing Service), the foremost authority in exam development and administration.

 The TOEIC certification holds international recognition:

  • Professionally, it is valued by entities such as ASEP (Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection), the Public Sector, and over 10,000 companies spanning 120 countries.
  • Academically, it is accepted by universities both domestically and abroad.
  • Free training courses in fundamental computer skills, leading to certification from Vellum Global Education Services, an organization endorsed by ASEP.

Computer lessons


To cater to all individuals, we've established daily remote classes utilizing modern and asynchronous educational methods. These sessions offer the invaluable guidance of specialized instructors through an advanced e-learning platform, equipped with updated educational resources.

Participation in this program necessitates adherence to the outlined terms, requirements, and procedural rules provided below. 

The total cost for advanced courses is subsidized, contingent upon your commitment to participate in certification exams (English exam fee: 150 euros, computer exam fee: 140 euros).

Candidates are expected to pay an additional 100 euros, in addition to the exam fee, as the beginner course program entails an extended duration of 2 additional months of classes (totaling 250 euros).  

Please note: To validate your application, it must be submitted digitally, and you must follow the registration steps outlined in the email you will receive from Equal Society.

New courses will commence immediately, with scheduled certification exams conducted regularly to accommodate the needs of individuals seeking to advance their career prospects.

Certificates will be promptly issued upon application submission.

Equal Opportunities: "Housing and Employment for the Homeless" 2024

In a period where living conditions have become even more challenging for a significant portion of the population, Equal Society, along with the municipalities of Southern Corfu and Central Corfu and the Diapontia Islands, is taking joint action to support our most vulnerable fellow citizens.

Specifically, the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands and the Municipality of Southern Corfu, in collaboration with Equal Society, have launched the project "EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES" under the program "Housing and Employment for the Homeless," which is funded by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

The project, with a total budget of €356,962.38 and duration of 24 months, aims to provide support to individuals and families living in homelessness in Central and Southern Corfu. The overall goal of the program is to contribute to the elimination of homelessness, with the following specific objectives identified:

  1. The immediate transition of beneficiary households to autonomous forms of living through the provision of housing and social care services.
  2. The mobilization for the reintegration of beneficiary households into the social fabric, through the provision of counseling and labor reintegration services.
  3. The inclusion of 20% of all adult beneficiaries who are capable of working in job placements subsidized by the program, and 10% in subsidies for acquiring professional skills.
  4. The further development of collaboration among services to address homelessness.
