Multipurpose Center for Homeless (Municipality of Athens)

Objective of the Structure

Employees and volunteers of our organization support the Multipurpose Center for Homeless of the Municipality of Athens, located in the center of Athens. It is one of the largest modern structures, with specialized staff that can accommodate up to 400 homeless people.

The Center for Homeless operates a Day Center, a Dormitory and a Hostel. At the Day Center, which has bathrooms and laundries, the homeless can wash their clothes and take a personal bath. There are storage areas for their personal belongings and areas where they can access the Internet, watch TV and eat. In the Dormitory, the homeless can take refuge to sleep, while in the Guest House they can stay for as long as necessary, in order to reintegrate into society.

The goal of the Structure is for the people who will join it to balance psychologically, physically and socially, so that they can "return" to society.

Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries of the Structure are the homeless. Homeless persons are defined as all persons residing legally in the country, who lack access or have precarious access to adequate owned, rented or leased housing that meets the necessary technical specifications and has the basic services of water and electricity. The homeless include in particular those who live on the street, in hostels, those who are accommodated out of necessity temporarily in institutions or other closed structures, as well as those who live in inappropriate accommodation.

Basic registration documents

In order to join the Multipurpose Center for the Homeless, the interested party is asked to provide the following supporting documents:

Photocopy of ID,
VAT number certificate,
Social Security Registration Number (AMKA) certificate,
Results of a diagnostic test certifying that he is not positive for COVID-19, and
Not to be an asylum seeker.

The additional supporting documents are examined on a case-by-case basis.

Lending library

From the first days of operation of the Multipurpose Center for the Homeless, Equal Society, believing in the power of culture, organized and created a Lending Library in the premises of the Structure.

Beneficiaries of the Structure can visit the Library and choose among dozens of book titles the ones that will take them on a temporary journey and keep them company.
