"Come On In, World!" vol I
With great success and a large audience, the performance "Come On In, World!" was held at the packed Theater "Stathmos" by the homeless theater group "Walkabout" of Equal Society.
This marks the twelfth performance by the members of this unique theater group, who use drama therapy as a means to rebuild their lives, escape homelessness, and reintegrate into society. Through their theatrical presentation, the group approached the deep thoughts we all share—thoughts that we often hesitate to express—with humor and philosophical insight. They reflected on social conventions, limitations, and expectations imposed upon us, exploring who we truly are.
Life is not just half light and half shadow, but a matter of perspective. What matters is for each person to find a reason and purpose to continue dreaming, as life will always go on, regardless of our choices.
The performances by the actors deeply moved and provoked the audience. The emotional turnout led to the collection of food for the "People’s Meals" soup kitchen of Equal Society, which serves over 230 individuals daily in the Municipality of Athens, specifically in the Kolonos area.
The evening was filled with art, solidarity, and generosity, attended by, among others, Ms. Ioanna (Jini) Gennimata, the Special Municipal Councilor for Volunteering and President of the Center for Reception and Solidarity of the Municipality of Athens (KYADA). Beneficiary groups from the Open Day Center for the Homeless – Okana’s Shelter and the Star Therapies Center also attended.
We sincerely thank our supporters: Eventora, efood, TGI Fridays, and Coca-Cola 3E, as well as our media sponsors Culture Now and Zhteitai.gr, and Petros Athanasopoulos from AP Photopress for the photographic coverage.
The "Walkabout" homeless theater group was established by Equal Society in 2017 and will continue to help individuals heal from their wounds through drama therapy, moving from vulnerability to a productive life. We look forward to our next performance on July 10 at the summer cinema "Alekos Chrysomides" in Keratsini.
