A production by the homeless theater group 'Walkabout' of the Equal Society Organization honored with its presence, the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, at the packed theater 'Stathmos.' At the same time, they offered food for the social dining initiative 'Anthropoi Gevmata,' operated by the Equal Society in collaboration with the Municipality of Athens.
It was the tenth theatrical performance by the Walkabout homeless group, which has been active since 2017, using drama therapy as its main tool with significant results for the integration of vulnerable groups. For the special support of President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the Equal Society chose to award her an honorary plaque, as the President has stood by the side of vulnerable citizens since the beginning of her term.
With strength of spirit, the members of the theater group - George M., Theodora, Nikos, Orthodoxy, George S., and Christos - gave us a special evening filled with truths, emotions, and laughter through the texts of I. Kampanellis, A. Dimou, T. Livaditis, and S. Serefas.
'To live in the shadows and eventually manage to become the protagonist of your life is unique,' said Spyros Fremantitis, president of the Organization, welcoming the attendees, adding that 'the homeless theater group Walkabout proves that hope, strength, and love for life come to the forefront.'
'We chose texts with a philosophical and existential background, but at the same time, with humor,' emphasized P. Dorlis, who directed the performance.
Representatives of companies, organizations, and civil society, beneficiaries of social structures, and citizens who once again supported the actions of Equal Society attended the performance. Also honored with their presence were the Minister of Labor & Social Affairs Kostis Hatzidakis, Deputy Minister of Culture Nikolas Giatromanolakis, General Secretaries Kalypsi Goula, Paulina Karasiotou, Yiannis Kotsiopoulos, Deputy Mayor of Athens Katerina Gagaki, actress Anna Fonsou, and others. George Stamatis, Secretary General for Social Solidarity and Poverty Alleviation, who was also a co-organizer, was also honored.
